After World War II, Franz Hoffmann began manufacturing care products. The "Sona" brand was basically provided for products to clean silver in the domestic sector, while the "SONAX" brand was invented for car care products, adding an "X" that reflected the word "Wax" (wax).

With the German economic miracle came the breakthrough of SONAX car care products. Beginning in the mid-1960s, SONAX supplied high quality cleaning and care products to the first fully automatic self-cleaning facilities. At the same time, the program for the manual care of the vehicle was continuously developed. More and more people were proud to have private cars. Saturday car wash was a ritual, rarely performed by the gas station employee, but usually done by the same proud owner by hand. The demand for car care products increased rapidly and with it the success of the SONAX brand.

SONAX soon opened new markets: The agricultural industry, hardware, forestry, construction, manufacturing technology and the sanitary industry have SONAX top quality products.
